I’m a born & bred New Yorker. I live in a small apartment, I don’t own a car, and I curse myself every time I walk the 20 blocks home from Trader Joe’s carrying two weeks worth of heavy groceries.
I felt like my whole world had changed
One year, I moved ONLY four blocks away to a new apartment. And yet, I felt like my whole world had changed. I was taking a slightly different route to work, and along the way, I discovered a beautiful little park, a tiny organic food restaurant, and a zen-like yoga studio.
These three locations soon became my favorite places to read, eat, and exercise.
Great experiences may await when stepping out of a routine
These discoveries reminded me that great experiences may await me if I step even slightly outside my routine once in a while.
If you want growth, creativity, excitement, innovation, and fulfillment in your life, you’re not going to achieve it by walking a route that your brains already knows.
Small Changes Can Lead to Big Results
But you also don’t need to necessarily overhaul your life or career to feel happier again. Sometimes small tweaks can make a huge difference.
What small changes in your daily routine can you try today that may open your eyes to new opportunities? Is it how you start your mornings? When or where you exercise? What you wear? How often you answer emails or check social media? The route you take on an afternoon stroll or car ride?
